Euro Extras

If you're in the UK More4 are airing The Secret History Of Eurovision again tomorrow night. Alternatively there are versions floating around youtube, the UK and Ireland versions are slightly different, they cut some of the talk about the queer aesthetic from the UK version to include a section on Wogan. It's a pretty good watch, with a mixture of old footage, interviews and some of the political history.

Also there the Panorama investigation into this years contest, and the human rights issues in the host country.

Who are you all cheering for in tonight's semi?

Eesti Laul!

Is anyone else planning on watching the Eesti Laul final tonight? Who do you like best/not like?

Me, my favorites are Birgit Ă•igemeel, Ott Lepland, and Lenna, and I also like Liis Lemsalu, and August Hunt is growing on me. The main one I would say I hope doesn't win is Tenfold Rabbit, because I just cannot stand the singer's voice, and the song is okay at best, to me.

UK's representative for the ESC has been announced...

...and it's Engelbert Humperdick :D

I was rather disappointed by the boring entrant Finland is again sending this year, so I'm glad that other countries will be providing the camp.

(no subject)

So, the first of the finals just finished here in Sweden. The first two songs that are going to be in the big finale in Stockholm have been selected and it seems like it's starting earlier and earlier every year (not that I'm complaining ^^).

I were wondering, here the competition begins on Feb 4th and ends on March 10th.

How long is the time-line for Eurovision where you live?

And when do you start to get excited for it? one week before? two? do you wait the whole year for it?

Two things

Firstly, an odd little graphic that I came upon in my travels:

Is Eurovision's heart broken? Is it representative of the countries that don't win? I don't know!

Secondly, for your listening enjoyment, girltype at LJ is offering ALL the Eurovision albums! The linked post is for the years 2000-2011. Apparently she is also going to post previous years as well.

Logos 1956 to 2010

I found this site yesterday when I was looking for the logo to make myself an icon: Evolution of the Eurovision Song Contest Logo 1956 - 2010. It's kind of amazing to look at some of the really old ones. From recent years, my favourite is the Moscow logo from 2009. I also really like Copenhagen's in 2001 and Estonia's in 2002.
